The bank issues free cards for passengers traveling on Metro Line 1

22/12/2024

Local residents and tourists can receive free cards for riding Metro Line 1 from commercial banks starting today.

Starting from 10:00 AM on December 22, the Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) officially begins commercial operation for public service.

To experience riding the Metro, passengers can travel for free during the first 30 days of commercial operation by using an EMV Mastercard to scan at the ticket gates. For those who do not have a card, free cards will be issued at 14 stations (available from December 22, 2024, to January 9, 2025).

From January 10 to January 20, 2025, passengers can use their chip-based ID cards (CCCD), identity cards, bank cards, EMV cards such as Mastercard, Visa, JCB, AMEX, UPI, Napas, virtual cards (Apple Pay/Samsung Pay), or QR codes through the HCMC Metro app to board the train.

Following this announcement, many commercial banks have already joined the effort.

TPBank has launched the TPBank Mastercard GO international payment card, allowing customers to tap the card at the ticket gates in the Metro Line 1 stations (Bến Thành – Suối Tiên) for cashless payment.

In addition to paying for metro tickets, the card can be used for other services such as withdrawing cash, transferring money, and making regular consumer purchases.

"Customers can get the TPBank Mastercard GO card immediately at TPBank’s mobile counters at select metro stations from December 22, 2024, to January 10, 2025, or register to open the card at selected TPBank branches and transaction offices in Ho Chi Minh City," a representative of TPBank said.
